Coffee Filter Wreath

Coffee filter wreaths have been really popular lately, and I love how they look.  Who knew that a coffee filter could turn into something so beautiful.  I used them a lot in my early childhood classrooms, but never thought of using them for home decor!  Check back in the next week or so for another tutorial using coffee filters.
I decided to use pins instead of hot glue so that I could reuse the wreath for another project.  You know me, I love to save money and reuse things!

Material:
Stack of Coffee Filters (100 or under should be enough)
Ribbon
Pins

Directions:
Start by crunching up the bottom of your coffee filter and sticking the pin through it.
Next, push the pin into the wreath.  Note that I didn't take the plastic off of the wreath.
Continue doing this process until your wreath is filled with the coffee filters.  Lift the wreath up every so often to check for holes that need to be filled.

Once your wreath is completely covered by coffee filters, take your ribbon and pin it in place on the back of the wreath.

I am not sure how long this would last on a front door, but it would definitely make a statement on the door.  I am hanging mine in the dining room.  I'll post a picture once I get the area done.

Manic Monday~ Chicken Dumpling Soup

This is a recipe that I have loved ever since I was young.  My mom would make it for me, and would make a lot of dumplings that were huge, just the way I liked it!  It's a super easy recipe that doesn't take much skill!  Hope you enjoy the soup!

Ingredients:
1/2 Medium White Onion
4 Stalks of Celery
4 Chicken Breasts (or use a pre-cooked rotisserie chicken!)
3 Bay Leaves
6 Cans of Chicken Broth (or more depending on if you like the juice thin or thick)
16 oz. Bag of Baby Carrots
1 C. Flour
3-4 Eggs
16 oz. Bag of Frozen Corn
16 oz. Bag of Frozen Peas

Directions:
Begin by adding your chicken broth into a large stew pot.  Then place the chicken breasts in the broth.  Add some salt and pepper and the bay leaves.  I like to cook the chicken this way because then all of the juices are added right to the soup.  Cook on medium high.  It should take about 1/2 hour to cook through.
While the chicken cooks, chop the white onion in small pieces.
 Next, chop your celery.
Then, chop your carrots into thirds.
Once the chicken is done, remove it from the pot and shred it up using a knife and fork, or your hands. Then add the chicken back to the pot, along with the celery, carrots and onions.

Now it's time to work on the dumplings.  In a mixing bowl, add a cup of flour and 3 eggs, then mix.  You will want this mixture to be sticky and gooey.  If it's too thick, add another egg.  The more flour you add, the thicker your soup will get. I like my soup thin, so this is why I only add the cup of flour.

Next, spoon up the mixture about the size in the picture (they get bigger when they cook), and drop it into your boiling soup.  You will need another utensil like a spoon or your hand to get the mixture off the spoon.  If you use your hands flour them up first so that it slides off easier.
The dumplings will float to the top of your pot.

Next, add your frozen peas and corn to the pot to cook.  I like to do this last so that they don't get too mushy from cooking for that long.  Cook for about another 20 minutes to half an hour.  Remember to remove your bay leaves.

Enjoy, and check out all of my other Manic Monday Recipes here, and follow me on Twitter and Facebook!

Scrapbook Saturday, Baby Footprints

I love this quote don't you?  It's so fitting.
(click on the picture to enlarge)

Happy Saturday!  Hope you are enjoying your weekend so far.  I'm gearing up to spend the day outside with family and friends and can't wait!
I knew I wanted a page that really focused on Estelle's little toes, so I didn't add too many embellishments.  (I took a few pieces of paper to the hospital in different colors and asked the nurse to put her foot prints on each one.  Can you say indecisive?!)  Anyway, here's the instructions on the page.

Materials:
Printer Paper/Computer
Overlay Acid Free Scrapbook Paper (a see through cloudy sheet)

Instructions:
For the quote, I printed it on regular printer paper, then put used the Elmer's glue stick to adhere the overlay to the paper.  It dries clear so you can't see the glue.

Then, I used Elmer's Glue spots to adhere the quote and footprint paper.

Next, I glued a 12 in. strip of the polka dot ribbon across the bottom of the paper.  Then I cut a 4 in. piece of ribbon and glued it into a circle (end to end).  Once that dried, I glued it down in the center.  Then, I glued an inch piece of ribbon around the center to finish the bow.  I placed the bow where I wanted it to be on the scrapbook page.
