DIY Backboard For the Guest Bedroom

I wanted to create a guest bedroom that was cozy and "finished."  We had a bed, but no backboard.  So I decided to use fabric to help liven the place up.  I first thought about using 3 big frames to showcase the fabric.  I love this look, but I was trying to finish the room on a budget and use things that I already had.  So I went rummaging through our garage to see what I could find.  I found some wood planks that were used for a crummy old shelving system that we didn't want to use anymore, and it sparked an idea.  Here is how it turned out and the instructions to make your very own backboard.

Materials:
3 pieces of wood (thinner the better) approximately 15 x 35 for a double bed
3 coordinating fabrics to fit
Foam Brushes
Stapler
Mounting Supplies

Directions:
1.  Begin by covering the top of the wood in ModPodge.  Then smooth over the fabric, making sure that there is fabric hanging over each of the edges.  Then do the same with the other two pieces of wood.

2.)  Allow the glue to dry for about 15 minutes.  Next, paint a layer of ModgPodge over the fabric on each piece.  Again, allow to dry for about 15 minutes.  Repeat process two more times to achieve a strong enough hold.

3.)  Next, staple the edges of the fabric down to the back side of the wood.  I had to hammer the staples in a bit because I used a regular stapler.

4.)  Then I used sawtooth hangers to hang the wood pieces up.

Then I decided I wanted to create a small wall decoration that used the matching fabrics.  Here's what I created...
Materials:
3 x 3 inch Canvas

Coordinating Fabric
ModPodge Matte Finish
Stapler
Foam Brush

Directions:
Follow the exact same instructions as above, and then hang in a selected pattern on the wall.
